The Face Behind the Flyer #0423
This year we are introducing a new tradition, working with members of The Little Makers Market family, to design custom flyers to shout about the events. This benefits us with beautiful marketing but also, helps us celebrate the incredible talent within our community.
Our April Flyers are in and oh my… are we obsessed! This month’s flyer has been designed by the incredibly talented Hannah Tooke, a Suffolk-based artist, specialising in mixed media, collage and cut paper. Hannah uses a variety of different inspirations such as landscapes, architecture and nature.

The design was inspired by the work of other Little Makers Market attendees, using the shapes of their wares and simplifying, I used this as a starting point for the collage. I decided upon the white background as the colour pops and has freshness.
It is the outcome of a playful approach that I love to have within my work, using cut paper to help inform the design. I enjoyed hand rendering the type, both hand-written and cut paper letters, and have added drawn elements, enjoying the naive line work and texture of mixed materials.
This year will hopefully bring more commissioned work; I have lots of markets, exhibitions and workshops lined up throughout the year, and I shall continue to develop my illustration practice through creative play …. part of the fun is the varied and surprising projects that this profession can bring so leaving a little for the unknown is great!
Since graduating I’ve been busy developing my portfolio for illustration commissions, I regularly exhibit my work and attend maker’s markets, plus running workshops. There are lots of creative clubs and events run locally so these are always inspiring and fun to work alongside other creatives. I’m also inspired by my travels, nature, landscapes, architecture, and memories and love to sketch alongside my collage work.
The design took me a little over a week to create, working intermittently on it; partly as I was juggling another project, and partly because I ideally need time for the design to develop in my mind too.
The collage and wording were created in my sketchbook, then scanned and finalised digitally, allowing me some freedom in the placement of various elements.
I studied illustration at degree level after a long break from education, previously studying fine art 20 years ago, then working within the photographic industry before returning to uni.
