What goes into running The Little Makers Market
If you’ve ever wandered through The Little Makers Market and thought, “What a lovely day out—so well put together!”—firstly, thank you! Secondly… let me lift the curtain a little. Because running a makers market isn’t just about setting up a few tables and collecting stallholder fees. It’s a whirlwind of planning, creating, fixing, lifting, coordinating, and cheering people on—sometimes all in the same breath. As the organiser behind The Little Makers Market, here’s a peek at the many hats I wear (usually all at once):
1. Content Creator
The magic starts long before market day. I’m constantly posting on socials to spotlight the incredible makers who bring our events to life. That means creating graphics, writing captions, sharing behind-the-scenes, and building hype—all while championing the small businesses that make our market what it is. It’s not just promotion—it’s community building.
2. Web Designer
Need to apply for a stall? Check event info? Find out what time setup begins? That’s all coming from the website, which I build and maintain myself. From applications and stallholder packs to last-minute updates and FAQs, I make sure everything’s clear, current, and easy to navigate (even if I’m tweaking code at midnight).
3. Floor Coordinator
The market floor isn’t just a jumble of tables—it’s a carefully curated experience. I spend hours crafting a floorplan that feels balanced and fair. No two similar stalls next to each other. No bottlenecks for shoppers. And definitely no awkward stallholder politics. Creating a peaceful layout is an art form—and one I take seriously.
4. Maker
Yes, I sell too! You’ll find me as @ribbonandtin—in theory. In reality, I’m rarely at my stall. I’m usually helping a fellow maker with a setup crisis, directing someone to the loo, or frantically sourcing a forgotten tablecloth. My own business often takes a backseat to make sure the whole event runs smoothly.
5. Chair Mover Extraordinaire
Glamorous? Not even a little. But necessary? 100%. Before those doors open, I’ve likely moved a hundred chairs, solved ten mini-disasters, and survived on caffeine and sheer adrenaline. If you see me looking sweaty but smiling—it’s because this wild, messy, beautiful chaos is 100% worth it.
So why do I do it?
Because there’s something magical about seeing it all come together, about watching makers connect with customers, shoppers discover new favourites, and a room filled with energy and creativity. It’s hard work—but it’s heart work, too.
Next time you come to The Little Makers Market, know that every detail has been carefully thought through. And behind the scenes, there’s one very tired, very happy organiser making sure it all runs like magic.
See you at the next one!
