The Face Behind the Flyer #0424

One of my favourite elements that we introduced last year, has to be the designer flyers!! Working with members of The Little Makers Market family, to create unique marketing to shout about the events. This benefits us with beautiful marketing but also, helps us celebrate the incredible talent within our community.

It’s such an honour every month to work with such talented individuals to create new marketing materials to share digitally & locally! Being able to see their processes unfold, and learning more about them as people, as well as creative, is truly inspiring.

Fall in love with our newest design! Created by the marvellous Jenny Mawson. Her adorable collection of happy products is inspired by what can be found at one of our markets. Along with her cute collection of book-style illustrations, hand-drawn using her digital tablet, they bring joy to all.

What was your inspiration behind the design?

I wanted to make a design that was cute and eye-catching, and most importantly one I liked myself! I love drawing weird and wonderful characters, so this flyer felt like the perfect opportunity to do more of that!

Approximately how long did it take you?

It took me about 4 or 5 hours in total, including coming up with ideas and doing the first sketches.

What’s your usual source of inspiration?

I draw a lot of my inspiration from nature. I grew up (and still live) in a very rural area, so I'm surrounded by wildlife which inspires me everyday. I also like drawing inspiration from my own childhood experiences to inform my characters in my children's book portfolio.

How long have you been making?

I've been making for what feels like forever! Art and creativity has been a constant throughout my life, but I could probably narrow it down to about a decade of actively practicing my style. I graduated from my illustration course last year and I'm still making all the time. It's what I love the most!

How did you do it?

I created the flyer in Procreate, a programme I'm relatively new to but I'm loving it! This was a great project to practice using the app, as it required lots of layers and different brushes.

Describe your work?

I would describe my work as whimsical and fun, with just the right amount of weirdness! I like making characters out of animals and natural objects like flowers, leaves, and seeds, and then creating stories for them - I'm hoping to get into the children's book industry soon! I also highlight traditional media in my work. I use gouache, watercolours and coloured pencils, sometimes by themselves and sometimes in combination, and it's my absolute favorite way to create. Digital art just doesn't give me the same sense of satisfaction as using paint. However, digital mediums have their advantages too, and it was the right fit for this flyer I think!

What’s your goal for 2024?

My goal for 2024 is to start getting my name out into the world of illustration, but also to just keep making work I love!
